At approximately 1100 AM today National Grid transmission pipeline experienced an issue that resulted in a low pressure situation for Aquidneck Island. Newport has 200 customers without gas service and Middletown has 360. National grid feels, at this time, the original problem has been corrected and the situation will get better from here on out.
At this time no Portsmouth residents have been impacted. National grid is preparing to augment the gas supply by pumping into the facility on Old Mill Lane. This could result in phone calls reporting the smell of gas. Middletown is setting up a shelter and Ray Perry will work with them should Portsmouth residents need a place to go.
Should any residents experience a loss of gas service they will be directed to call 800-322-3223. In doing so, National Grid can track any expanding issues
