  • A fully functional Emergency Operations Center is set up at Portsmouth Town Hall.  Part of that includes a volunteer coordinator.  If you are interested in volunteering your time or services during this crisis please contact the Portsmouth EOC Volunteer Coordinator, Debra Correia at
  • The Portsmouth School district will begin their Distance Learning Plan on Monday along with all other Rhode Island schools.  Each principal will promulgate more detailed information which will accompany their school-level plans which will be launched at 8:00am on Monday.
    • Students need to understand school vacation ends as of Monday.
    • Students need to contact their "homeroom" teacher (which may look different at each school and level) between 9:00 and 9:30am each day.
    • Further instructions have or will be promulgated by each principal.
    • Beginning Monday, March 23rd, grab and go breakfast and lunches will be available for all Portsmouth students in the main foyer of Portsmouth Middle School between the hours of 9:00-10:30am.
      • Any Portsmouth student can visit PMS during these hours, Monday-Friday, with or without a parent, to receive free breakfast and lunch items. No questions asked, no paperwork needed.
      • HealthSource RI is offering a Special Enrollment Period available to Rhode Islanders losing health coverage due to a change in employment status.
        • Rhode Islanders who wish to obtain coverage can do so by visiting and enrolling online, or by contacting the HealthSource RI call center Monday-Friday, 8am-6pm at 1-855-840-4774.
        • Governor Raimondo issued a fifth and sixth supplemental emergency declaration:
          • EO 20-07:  Extension of time for weapon and firearm background checks.
            • Police authorities conducting background checks required by RI General Laws concerning weapons shall have up to 30 days to complete background investigations and notify sellers whether the applicant id disqualified from purchasing a firearm.
            • EO 20-08:  Economic support for restaurants, bars and establishments that offer food.
              • Class B licensees will be permitted to sell up to two bottles of wine and one hundred and forty-four ounces of beer in original factory sealed containers, with take-out food orders.
              • Governor Raimondo activated the Rhode Island National Guard.
                • First Responder Municipal employees will be exempted from the call up.
                • This action will allow 1,000 Guardsmen and Guardswomen to train civilian medical personnel, staff call enters, distribute food and necessities to the most vulnerable and perform several other critical functions.

  • The RI Student Loan Authority has announced assistance with RISLA loan payments for clients who have been negatively impacted by COVID-19.
  • Older Rhode Islanders needing help with food or other resources are encouraged to call The Rhode Island Office of Healthy Aging (OHA) at (401) 462-4444 or 2-1-1 during normal business hours.
  • Portsmouth Senior Center has established a Meal Site at their address - 110 Bristol Ferry Rd. Meals need to be made with a 24-hour reservation.  Participants can call Cynthia (Director-Portsmouth Senior Center) at 401-683-4106.  If no answer call (401) 297-6102.
