Notice of Statewide Primary Election--September 13, 2022
THE FOLLOWING IS NOTICE OF THE
RHODE ISLAND STATEWIDE PRIMARIES
TO BE HELD ON
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2022
Redistricting Postcard
All registered Portsmouth voters were sent a postcard identifying their district and voter information as determined by the 2022 RI Redistricting Legislation signed into law in February 2022.
Voter information can be updated online or by completing a RI Voter Registration form. Changes must be received by Sunday, August 14.
Last Day to Register to Vote
The LAST DAY to register to vote or make changes to existing records for this election is Sunday, August 14.
Canvassing staff will be in the office to answer questions and provide forms at 2200 East Main Road, 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Registrations and changes can be made online at vote.ri.gov .
Mail Ballot & Early In-Person Voting (20 Days Prior to Every Election)
Voters have the following options to cast a ballot before Election Day:
- Request a regular mail ballot
- Applications available at the Canvassing office or online at vote.ri.gov (https://vote.sos.ri.gov/Forms/elections/Forms/PrimaryMBApplication.pdf )
- May request an application by contacting the Canvassing office.
- Must be received before 4PM August 23.
- Early voting at Town Hall—August 24 through 4PM September 12
- During Town Hall business hours: Monday – Wednesday, 8:30AM to 4:30PM
Thursday, 8:30AM to 6:30PM
Friday, 8:30AM to 2:30PM - Ballot is voted and counted in the DS-200 optical scanner—Photo ID Required
- During Town Hall business hours: Monday – Wednesday, 8:30AM to 4:30PM
- Complete Emergency Mail Ballot Application
- Allows voter to pick up a mail ballot at Town Hall
- Allows voter to designate a representative to pick up ballot at Town Hall (courier must show ID)
- Ballots may be deposited in BALLOT DROP BOX at the south entrance to Town Hall

Polls Open on Election Day
September 13, 2022 – PRIMARY ELECTION DAY
Polls open 7:00 AM and close 8:00 PM
Precincts reflect 2022 Redistricting Legislation
Voters have been sent postcards identifying new district and precinct numbers
All of Portsmouth is in US Congressional District 1 and RI Senate District 11
Voter information can also be verified at vote.ri.gov or by contacting the Canvassing office

Mail Ballot Applications for November 8 General Election. Printed copies are located at the Canvassing office at Town Hall and online at vote.ri.gov . The link is provided below:

Military and Overseas voters can complete an FPCA application that will cover all elections (https://www.fvap.gov/)
