Poll Workers


The Portsmouth Board of Canvassers is seeking poll workers for the upcoming 2022 elections


  • Statewide primaries: Tuesday, September 13, 2022
  • Mid-term General election: Tuesday, November 8, 2022

Hours. 6AM and leave after all results have been transmitted to the state after polls close at 8PM.

Positions & Compensation.

  • Moderator—Oversees all activities at precinct. $250/day
  • Clerk—Assists Moderator and responsible for updating voter information. $250/day
  • Supervisors/Greeters--Checks in voters. $100/half-day shift (Two shifts: polls open to 1PM or 1PM to polls close) or $200/full day.

Meals.  Lunch & dinner provided.

Trainings. Conducted by the Board of Elections

Supervisors/Greeters—In-person at Town Hall Council Chambers 
Monday, August 15, 2:00 to 3:00PM or
Tuesday, August 16, 5:30 to 6:30PM
Wednesday, August 24, 5:30PM at CCRI Newport Campus, 1 John Chafee Blvd.
Wednesday, August 31, 5:30PM at Mt. Hope High School Auditorium, Bristol or
Wednesday, September 7, 1:00PM at RI State Board of Elections offices, 2000 Plainfield Pike, Cranston

Informal meeting at Town Hall at 10AM the Saturday before the elections (Sept 10 & Nov 5) to go over emergency plans and address any remaining questions.
